Highlights: At Alvernia, the Cardinals (10-2) hovered within five points of the defending Class AA state champions late in the game before the Fighting Irish (12-0) pulled away for the win.

Trailing 40-35 with three minutes remaining, Central missed the front end of one-and-one free-throw opportunities on consectuive possessions, and York Catholic answered with baskets each time to go ahead 44-35.

The Irish, who returned all of their starters from last year's team, forced a few turnovers down the stretch to seal the victory.

The Cardinals led 14-9 after the first quarter, but were outscored 13-4 in the second. Leading scorer Kristine Wrobel sat most of the quarter after picking up her second foul.

Both teams scored 12 in the third, and York Catholic led 34-30 heading into the final quarter.

Wrobel finished with 13 points. Rachel Schleicher scored 11 for Central.

Amanda Weaver scored 15 and Megan Stewart 14 to lead the Irish.
