Highlights:
Monday at Leesport, Malachi Kauffman reached 1,000 career points with a basket late in the third quarter and went on to score a game-high 26 points as the Panthers (1-0, 3-4) held off the Mounts (0-1, 2-3) in the league opener for both.
Kauffman, a four-year starter, became the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone and the first since Manny Yarde, a 2012 graduate.
Kauffman needed 21 points entering the game to reach 1,000.
He nearly got there with a tremendous first half that saw him score 17 points and help the Panthers to a 28-21 lead.
They scored the first two baskets of the second half and maintained a double-digit lead most of the rest of the way.
Nathan Schaeffer scored 16 for the Panthers.
Hector Tiburcio led the Mounts with 16 points.
Antietam pulled within eight points with 6 1/2 minutes remaining but played much of the fourth quarter without starters Aidan Freese and Johnny Day, who fouled out early in the fourth.
The Mounts missed 14-of-20 free throws.
The Panthers were good on 19-of-33 attempts from the line.
Kauffman joins Darin Walls (1,695), Yarde (1,464), Danny Dunkelberger (1,049) and Mark Rachman (1,022) on the Panthers 1,000-point list.
He finished the game with 1,005 points.
