Highlights: Wilson withstood a fierce second-half charge from Reading High but held on for a 58-56 win to claim the District 3 Class 6A boys basketball title game Saturday at Giant Center.

Stevie Mitchell, who scored a game-high 27 points, secured the rebound after Reading's Rene Rodriguez intentionally missed a free throw with .6 seconds left and his team down two. Rodriguez had missed the first shot.

The district championship is the first for the top-seeded Bulldogs (27-1), who hadn't been in a title game in 26 seasons.

The championship game appearance was the third straight and fourth in five seasons for the third-seeded Red Knights (18-8).

The Bulldogs led by 14 early in the second half before the Red Knights came back to take the lead two times, the last at 49-47 on Moro Osumanu's basket with 3:29 left. The game was tied three times in the fourth quarter.

Wilson's Evin Timochenko finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.

Denim Adams had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Reading before fouling out. Osumanu, who also fouled out, had 12 points, all in the second half.

The Red Knights led by as many as four points in the first quarter before the Bulldogs started getting second-chance points and taking advantage of turnovers.
