Boyertown at Plum

PIAA Class AAAA championship at Penn State. Boyertown won the PIAA Class AAAA baseball championship Thursday afternoon, beating Plum 4-1 at Penn State's Medlar Field. The Bears (24-6) scored twice in the top of the first on an RBI single by Ben Longacre and a triple by Mitch Peers and hung onto a 2-1 lead in the fourth through the sixth before adding two insurance runs in the seventh. Pat Hohlfeld earned the win with a complete-game six-hitter and Mitch Pinder went 2-for-4 and scored twice for Boyertown, which won its first state baseball title since 1991. Alex Kirilloff, the No. 15 pick in last week's MLB draft, tripled and doubled for Plum (25-2), but was thrown out at the plate on an inside-the-park homer attempt and called out for leaving third base too soon on what would have been a game-tying sacrifice fly.
