Highlights
The No. 10 Rams (18-6) held a one-run lead through two innings Friday, but the No. 2 Whippets responded with 10 runs over the next three frames to win convincingly in a District 1-AAAA quarterfinal playoff at Downingtown.
Quinn McKenna, who finished 3-for-3, gave Spring-Ford the early advantage with a first-inning RBI single, but Downingtown West erased the small deficit with five runs in the third before posting two more in the fourth and three in the fifth.
The Rams' lineup was held in check by Whippets starter Joey Zettlemoyer, who threw five shutout innings after allowing the early run.
With the loss, Spring-Ford drops into playbacks for fifth place.
Downingtown West advances to a semifinal matchup against No. 6 Council Rock North Tuesday.
