Hempfield at Gov. Mifflin

At Shillington, a three run first inning and Justin DelVecchio's 5th inning solo home run propelled the No. 7 Mustangs (13-10) over the No. 10 Black Knights (10-12) in a Class 6A first round game. In the first, Trevor Woolwine singled and Isaac Ruoss reached base on an error. Woolwine scored on a fielder's choice. Tristan Kochel then drove in two runs off a single. Ben Myers hit an RBI single in the fourth before DelVecchio homered in the fifth to give Gov. Mifflin a 5-0 lead. Winning pitcher Joe Adametz reached the 100-pitch count in the top of the sixth after allowing three hits, two earned runs and striking out eight. Hempfield added a run to narrow the lead to 5-4 in the seventh but couldn't tie it. Gov. Mifflin travels to play No. 2 Cedar Crest in the quarterfinals Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
