Millersburg 6

Highlights

At Millersville, Ryan Howe’s bases-loaded, walk-off hit with nobody out drove Zach Kauffman home with the deciding run in the eighth inning as the top-seeded Eagles defeated the fourth-seeded Indians 7-6 in a District 3-1A semifinal. Millersburg (8-13) loaded the bases with nobody out in the top half of the inning, but relief pitcher Noah Simpson, who had previously thrown only two innings this season, got High Point (13-2) out of the jam unscathed. Simpson induced a ground ball to third, which resulted in a force out at home, before getting a strike out and a fly out to end the threat. Chad Evans pitched until midway through the sixth when he reached his pitch limit for High Point, which led 6-4 entering the seventh before Millersburg scored twice to tie it. The Eagles had runners at second and third in the bottom half but were unable to capitalize before heading to extra innings. High Point will play No. 2 Greenwood, a 7-3 winner over No. 3 Lancaster Christian Thursday, for the championship Tuesday at FirstEnergy Stadium.
