Muhlenberg at Tulpehocken

At Owls Field, after struggling early, Blaise Fernandez retired 12 of the last 13 hitters he faced as the Berks IV champion Trojans (17-3) edged the Berks II runner-up Muhls (15-7) in a Berks League quarterfinal. Tulpehocken advances to Monday's semifinals at FirstEnergy Stadium, where it will face the Reading High-Oley Valley winner at 4 p.m. Muhlenberg grabbed the early lead with a three-run first. Gabe Fellin led off the game with a triple, then scored on a John Marchiano single. Eric Nester and Pete McGinley also had RBI singles in the inning. Muhlenberg answered with two in the bottom of the inning on a Fernandez RBI single and a Drew Fisher sacrifice fly. Muhlenberg went ahead 4-2 in the top of the third when they got an unearned run off a Fernandez error, but Tulpehocken came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead. Drew Fisher drew a bases-loaded walk, John Rivera drove in a run on a fielders choice, and Joe Hirneisen brought home the go-ahead run when he reached on an error by the second baseman. Fernandez retired the side in order in the next three innings before giving up a one-out single to John Marchiano in the seventh. He struck out the final two hitters he faced to end it, however. Zach Shirk went 1-for-3 with two runs, Fernandez was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Fisher had two RBIs for Tulpehocken. For Muhlenberg, Marchiano went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and McGinley was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
