Highlights
Alyssa Vasaturo’s RBI single drove in pinch-runner Samantha Pegler with two outs in the top of the seventh, and Twin Valley held on to stun two-time defending state champion Susquehannock 1-0 in a District 3 Class AAA softball quarterfinal Thursday afternoon at Millersville.
The ninth-seeded Raiders (15-5) got a six-hit shutout from Ashley Antosh, who survived a two-on, two-out threat from the top-seeded Indians (16-3) by getting a ground ball to third for the final out.
Twin Valley advances to the semifinals Tuesday to face Berks II rival Muhlenberg at 6:30 p.m. at Lyons.
Center fielder Kaitlin McGinnis went 2-for-3 with a double for the Raiders, and preserved the shutout when she threw out a runner at the plate in the fourth inning.
Pegler scored the game’s lone run after running for Aimee Rosenbaum, who began the winning rally with a one-out single.
The Raiders avenged last year’s 1-0 quarterfinals loss to Susquehannock.
