Highlights

Tenth-seeded Twin Valley hammered 20 hits, played error-free defense and got a big night on the mound and at the plate from Brad Smith in its 17-1 thumping of No. 2 Lampeter-Strasburg in a District 3 Class AAA quarterfinal at Ephrata Thursday night. Smith hit a grand slam in the eight-run sixth inning and had three hits and six RBIs. He also pitched five three-hit, nine-strikeout innings. The Raiders (14-7) advanced to next Tuesday's semfinals. They will play No. 22 Palmyra at Ephrata at 6:30 p.m. Ben Nelson went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, Jesse May was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Justin Pacana was 3-for-3 with three runs and Greg Reardon had three hits for Twin Valley. The Pioneers (18-5) actually took a 1-0 lead into the fourth, but the Raiders scored five in the fourth and four in the fifth before finishing it with the big sixth.
