Highlights
Rachel Fritz hit a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning to break a tie and lead Gov. Mifflin to a 4-1 win over Conestoga Valley in a District 3-AAAA softball preliminary game.
The victory advances the 18th-seeded Mustangs to the first round to face No. 2 seed Daniel Boone Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Muhlenberg.
Logan Focht started the winning rally with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cierra Miller. Fritz drove home Focht with her second RBI hit of the game before Sam Denlinger and Jayme Babczak delivered RBI singles.
Winning pitcher Jess Epler went 2-for-2 with a triple and struck out eight to help the Mustangs (13-7) win their sixth straight. Losing pitcher Courtney Allen struck out 10 and went 3-for-4 for the 15th-seeded Buckskins (12-8).
Conestoga Valley scored a run in the third to ake a 1-0 lead. Gov. Mifflin tied it in the fifth on Fritz's first RBI single.
Focht and Babczak also had two hits for Gov. Mifflin.
