Highlights
Boyertown battled back from a three-run deficit to tie it in the top of the seventh inning, but a sacrifice fly by Tommy Eliason in the bottom half gave Downingtown West a 4-3 win in the District 1 Class 6A fifth-place game Thursday at Downingtown.
Trailing 3-0 entering the final inning, the Bears drew three consecutive one-out walks to load the bases. Gavin Henderson drove Boyertown’s first run home with an RBI groundout before Jake Dicesare and Broc Babb scored on a throwing error with two outs to make it 3-3.
In the bottom of the inning, the Whippets loaded the bases with nobody out on a pair of walks and a bunt single to set up Eliason’s eventual sac fly.
The Bears had just one hit through six innings and finished with two. Colin Maloney and Shayn Horrocks each had a single.
Downingtown West took the lead in the third inning on a three-run home run by Eric Grintz.
