Highlights:At Shillington, James O'Leary scored 12 points and Javar Colon had 10 as the 14th-seeded Mustangs (14-9) defeated the 19th seeded Eagles (14-10) in a District 3-AAAA Tournament preliminary game Thursday night.
The Mustangs played strong defense, holding the Eagles to single digits in three of the four quarters, and leading scorer Matt Carty to just four points, six under his average.
Earvin Johnson, who averages 9.4 points per game for Cocalico, did not score.
The Mustangs led by eight after a quarter before seeing the Eagles storm back with 21 second-quarter points, tying the game several times.
Mifflin led by two at the half and slowly extended the lead throughout the second half.
Justin Rodriguez, Mifflin's leading scorer, was held to four points. He was in foul trouble early in the game, and was also the target of Cocalico's defensive effort.
The Mustangs advance to a first-round matchup against third-seeded Elizabethtown (22-2), the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 champ.
Cocalico is the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 champ.
