Exeter at Schuylkill Valley (Boys soccer)
1st Half 2nd Half Final
Exeter 1 1 2
Schuylkill Valley 1 2 3
Highlights:Giuliano Caloiero scored two goals and assisted on the other, powering Schuylkill Valley past Exeter 3-2 in the Berks Boys Soccer League quarterfinals Tuesday night at Twin Valley.

It was the first county playoff win in the 22-season history of the Panthers program, and sets up a battle between one-loss teams when Berks III champion Schuylkill Valley faces Berks II champion Fleetwood in tonight’s second semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at Gov. Mifflin.

“It’s very significant for the program,” said fourth-year Panthers coach Matt Crouse. “Stepping up, playing the defending county champion and getting a win is big.”

Defending Berks champion Exeter took a 1-0 lead 5:13 into the game when Sam Hart played a ball into the box that deflected off a Schuylkill Valley defender and into the net.

Then Caloiero took over. He scored to make it 1-1 in the 34th minute, assisted Justin Padinske on the go-ahead goal 16:48 into the second half, then netted his second goal, off a Brian Robertson feed, to make it 3-1 58 seconds later.

The Panthers (17-1) needed that insurance, as the Eagles (7-7-2) did not relent their title easily. Michael Palacios headed in Hart’s corner kick with 7:33 left to draw Exeter to within one.

But Schuylkill Valley held on to secure its 11th straight win and first trip to the Berks semfinals. The Panthers, Crouse said, are not satisfied yet.

“This group of guys wants to stay together, and they play as such,” he said. “They certainly don’t want their season to end.”
