Cheltenham at Boyertown (Boys soccer)
1st Half 2nd Half Final
Cheltenham 0 1 1
Boyertown 0 0 0
Highlights:District 1-AAA preliminary

At Bucktown, Dmitry Zherdev banged through the Boyertown backfield, retrieved a loose ball and one-touched it home for the game's lone goal midway through the second half, lifting the 20th-seeded Panthers (12-5-2) to the game's lone goal and ending the season -- and a 13-game winning streak -- for the 13th-seeded Bears (16-4).

Boyertown was technically the host team, but the rain prompted officials to move the game to Owen J. Roberts, where the slick, older artificial surface seemed to hurt a Bears attack that had been clicking en route to its first Pioneer Athletic Conference championship.

"The surface is one that we've not been successful on," said Boyertown coach Scott Didyoung. "We played excellent defensively and at midfield. We just couldn't get control of the ball to get any fluidity offensively."

The Bears mustered just four shots on goal, the best coming on a Collin McCormick header off a corner kick early in the second half. But Cheltenham's Dan Marsden made a leaping save, plucking the ball from the air to preserve what was a scoreless tie at the time.

"It was a night of frustration," said Didyoung, whose team hadn't lost since a 1-0 non-league setback at Berks champion Fleetwood Sept. 19. "That's how I would encapsulate the evening."

Boyertown fell to 0-5 all-time in District 1 play since leaving the Berks League and District 3 prior to the 2002 season.

Cheltenham will play at No. 4 Unionville Thursday night.
