Highlights:Boyertown gave up a goal in each half and managed just two shots in falling to Downingtown East in a District 1-AAA quarterfinal at Boyertown.
The fourth-seeded Bears (17-4) failed to clinch the first state berth in program history and saw their season end. The fifth-seeded Cougars (14-6) advance to Wednesday’s semifinal against Downingtown West, a 1-0 winner over West Chester East.
Kendall Frey scored both goals unassisted for Downingtown East, which outshot Boyertown 7-2 and had a 6-1 advantage in corners.
The Bears came into the game ranked seventh in the state by PSCA.
