Tulpehocken at Abington Heights (Boys soccer)
1st Half 2nd Half Final
Tulpehocken 0 1 1
Abington Heights 0 0 0
Highlights:Sophomore Jaime Vazquez fired a 20-yard rocket past Abington Heights keeper Justin Passetti 5:16 into the second half, and Tulpehocken made the shot stick in a 1-0 PIAA Class AA first-round win over Abington Heights Tuesday night at Dunmore.

The Trojans (21-3) were a tad hung over from their disappointing District 3 final defeat to Fleetwood three days earlier, but still managed to advance to the state's quarterfinals for the first time since winning a Class A title in 2001.

"We didn't play as well as we have the last couple games, but we got through," said Tulpehocken coach Tim Frantz. "We just didn't play as well as we're capable of playing; we didn't play badly."

Vazquez, who scored on a similar shot against Fleetwood last Saturday, began the winning sequence with a corner kick. After a scramble, the ball bounced his way and he finished, giving Tulpehocken the goal it needed to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal against District 1 champion Octorara (16-4-1), a 3-2 overtime winner over Archbishop Wood Tuesday night.

Tuesday's game was played as evenly as the statistics suggest, with neither team getting a shot on net in the first half. The District 2 champion Comets (20-2) brought an extra man forward after Vazquez's goal, increasing their opportunities. But Andrew Fisher saved three shots and Tulpehocken's defense held for its 14th shutout this season.
