Highlights:At Breidegam Field, Andrew Gernert and Austin Marsteller combined on a one-hit shutout as the eighth-seeded Cougars (12-10) beat the ninth-seeded Fighting Irish (9-11) in a District 3 Class AA preliminary-round game. Gernert went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Kutztown, Drew Entriken singled and drove in a run and Dustin Smith singled and scored a run. Joe Rost had a one-out single in the third for York Catholic's only hit. The Cougars advanced to a quarterfinal game at top-seeded Pequea Valley at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
