Sophie Goad scored with 5:22 left in the first half Tuesday to lift Schuylkill Valley to a 1-0 win over Lancaster Mennonite in a District 3-AA girls soccer first-round game.
The victory advances the sixth-seeded Panthers (13-6-1) into the quarterfinals for the first time. Schuylkill Valley will face Northern York/Bishop McDevitt on Thursday.
Megan Murphy assisted on the game's only goal to help Schuylkill Valley eliminate the 11th-seeded Blazers (9-8-3).
Caitlin Gannon made six saves to help Schuylkill Valley earn its fifth shutout win of the season. Audrey Haller made eight saves for Lancaster Mennonite.
The victory was the second district playoff win in school history for Schuylkill Valley, which won a preliminary round game in 2010.
