Highlights:
At Shillington, Nick Rossignoli scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the Cardinals (21-3) defeated the Blue Jays (19-5) to claim the Berks Conference Division IV championship Friday.
The teams had tied for first place at 12-1, requiring a special playoff for the title. They split a pair of regular season meetings.
The Cards head to the Berks Conference quarterfinals Monday against Berks I runner-up Reading High at Wilson at 7.
The Blue Jays meet Berks I champion Wilson at Gov. Mifflin at 7.
With Holy Name doubling down inside on Central center Colin Naugle, Rossignoli stepped up, knocking down 7-of-12 shots.
Matt Ashcroft sparked the Cards in the first half with three 3-pointers and 13 of his 17 points.
The Blue Jays battled back from an 11-point deficit early in the third quarter and were within three points of the lead with four minutes remaining. Casey Casantini had seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to keep the Jays close.
For an expanded look at the game, check Mike Drago's story in Saturday's edition of the Reading Eagle.
