Highlights: At Hamburg, Josh Smith hit a pair of big 3-pointers down the stretch and the third-seeded Bulldogs (25-3) survived a scare from the 19th-seeded Wildcats (14-12) in a District 3-AAAA opener.

The Bulldogs missed five free throws over the final three minutes, frittering away a seven-point lead that allowed the Wildcats to tie it with 1:28 to go and have a chance to win it at the buzzer.

Dan Knapp's off-balanced 3-pointer in the final second missed the mark, allowing the Bulldogs to escape.

Smith finished with a game-high 20 points, including seven in the final quarter.

Jake Zeigler scored a team-high 16 points for the Wildcats before fouling out with 1:06 remaining.
