ROYERSFORD -- Devon Merritt scored a game-high 18 points but it wasn't enough as Berks Catholic fell to Archbishop Wood 61-37 Tuesday in the PIAA Class AAA girls basketball semifinals at Spring-Ford High School.

District 3 runner-up Berks Catholic (24-7) ran out to a 6-1 lead before District 12 champion Archbishop Wood (24-6) took control midway through the first quarter to reach the state championship game for the second straight year and sixth time in seven years.

Drexel recruit Bailey Greenberg scored 16 points to lead the Vikings, who defeated Conrad Weiser in the state semifinals last year.

Berks Catholic had its season ended with a loss in the state semifinals for the second straight year.
