Highlights: Tre Dabney scored a game-high 18 points and fronted a tremendous defensive effort by Berks Catholic as it knocked off three-time defending champ Reading High 51-46 in the Berks Conference championship game at Santander Arena.

The victory gave Berks Catholic coach Snip Esterly his 700th victory and third over the Red Knights in the county title game.

The Berks II champion Saints (23-2) jumped ahead 13-2 and led the entire way, though the Berks I champion Red Knights (21-4) closed the gap to two points in the final minutes.

Xavier Starks led the Red Knights with 14 points but the Saints, employing both man and zone defenses, were able to hold Reading scoring leader Wesley Butler to eight points.

The Saints got a scare when rim protector Keba Mitchell fouled out with 2:24 left and his team leading just 43-41 but Kyran Mitchell and Luke Painton each forced turnovers before Painton scored on a critical inbounds pass from Kyran Mitchell for a 47-41 lead with 1:07 left.

The Saints put it away with free throws from Luis Garcia and Dabney in the final seconds.

The championship is the third for Berks Catholic and first since back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2012.

Garcia scored 10 points and Casey Jack and Keba Mitchell nine each for BC.
