Highlights:
Daniel Colter scored nine third-quarter points as Reading High broke open a tight game and went on to beat Bensalem 63-38 in a PIAA Tournament Class 6A opener at Gov. Mifflin Intermiediate.
Colter finished with 13 points, as did Larry Wingo, as the District 3 champion Red Knights (25-4) advanced to the second round Wednesday against C.B. West, a 53-35 winner over Emmaus.
Colter scored nine straight points over a four-minute stretch early in the third quarter as Reading stretched its five-point halftime lead to 34-22.
Reading played without its leading scorer, Wesley Butler, for the final 12 1/2 minutes of the first half after he picked up two quick fouls.
He didn't score until three minutes into the final quarter but finished with 11. He also had a game-high seven assists.
Wingo had a team-high seven rebounds off the bench to help Reading dominate the glass, with a 31-16 rebounding advantage.
The Fighting Owls (17-11) finished 10th in the District 1 Tournament.
