Highlights: Scranton Prep scored the first nine points of the game and led most of the way during a 49-33 PIAA Class 4A first-round win over Wyomissing Saturday at Marywood University in Scranton.

The Spartans (21-6), the fourth-place team from District 3, bounced back to tie it 13-13 shortly before halftime, but Claire Szymanski made two 3-pointers — her only two baskets of the night — late in the second quarter for the District 2 champion Cavaliers (24-2) to give them a six-point advantage at the break.

The Spartans were outscored by eight in the third quarter and were unable to overcome the double-digit deficit.

Kristy Bell scored eight points and Leah McAvoy and Myra Owens had seven each for Wyomissing, which made just 13 of its 62 attempts from the field (21 percent).

Scranton Prep advances to a second-round matchup Wednesday against District 1 runner-up Lower Moreland, a 44-42 winner over Audenried Saturday.
