Highlights:
Luis Garcia scored a game-high 15 points and Nick Gaspari provided a spark off the bench with four 3-pointers as Berks Catholic defeated Lancaster Catholic 60-43 today in a non-league game at Wolf Gymnasium.
With the Saints (11-2) struggling from the field in the early minutes, Gaspari hit a 3-pointer late in the first quarter to give them the lead for good. He finished with a career-high 12 points.
Berks Catholic ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run and continued to build its lead in the second quarter, when it led 29-12 at one point.
The Saints were ahead by as many as 26 late in the third quarter.
Casey Jack had eight points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Saints; Garcia had five assists.
Berks Catholic, the No. 1 defensive team in the Berks Conference, held the Crusaders (11-6) to 15 points in the first half and 27 points through three quarters.
David Kamwanga led the Crusaders with 12 points, eight in the final quarter, and had a game-high nine rebounds.
The win pushed the Saints up two spots to No. 2 in the District 3 Class 4A power ratings.
It was the first meeting between the two schools.
In its first five losses this season Lancaster Catholic lost by a combined 18 points, including a 66-59 loss to Wilson in December.
