Highlights: Berks Catholic was limited to 15 second-half points in falling to state-ranked La Salle College in a defensive battle Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.

The Saints (16-4) led 21-14 at halftime after holding the Explorers (18-2) scoreless in the second quarter.

LaSalle opened the second half on a 15-0 run, all on 3-pointers, and led the rest of the way.

Berks Catholic pulled within two points twice in the final quarter, the second on a Nick Gaspari 3-pointer.

Luis Garcia led the Saints with 11 points; he is 43 away from 1,000 for his career.

Gaspari scored nine points off the bench.

Allen Powell led the Explorers with 12 points, and hit three of their eight 3-pointers.

La Salle is ranked No. 4 in the state in Class 6A; Berks Catholic is ranked No. 4 in the state in Class 4A.

The Saints played without 6-7 center Luke Painton, who was ill.

The Explorers snapped a two-game losing streak after a 17-0 start.

The loss was just the third on the court this season for the Saints, who also fell to state-ranked Executive Education Charter and to Wilson, which previously had cracked the state rankings in 6A.

Berks Catholic has also defeated three state-ranked teams: Pottsville, Abington Heights and Constitution. The Saints had to forfeit the Abington Heights victory.
