Highlights:
he Wilson Bulldogs really didn't get started Friday night until they were down two starters.
Then they were unstoppable.
Playing without starting guards Mykell Huffman and Kieran Borian for most of the second half, the Bulldogs found a new gear and raced past Reading High 57-34 in a wild Berks I boys basketball opener at the Geigle.
Stevie Mitchell carried the load in the first half and scored a game-high 22 points, but the key in the second half was the play of Wilson's Evin Timochenko and three guys off the bench: Christian Vazquez, Ryan Strobel and Josh Valle. They helped keep the Bulldogs (5-0) afloat when things looked bleak.
"I was thinking: ‘We’re in trouble,' " said Bulldogs coach Matt Coldren, "but those guys proved me wrong. They showed me that they can handle key situations if we need to go to them."
The trio came off the bench to combine for 19 points and 13 rebounds. Combine that with an 11-point, nine-rebound effort from Timochenko, who helped the Bulldogs dominate the boards in the second half, and you can see it wasn't all just Mitchell.
