Highlights:
Denim Adams scored 16 points to lead a balanced scoring effort as Reading High pulled away from Downingtown East for a 50-39 win in the championship game of the Reading Holiday Tournament tonight at the Geigle.
The championship was the first for the Red Knights (6-3) since 2016. They lost last year's championship game to Norristown, and to Dunbar, Md., in 2017.
Adams came off the bench to spark a big second-quarter run and finished with seven rebounds.
Daniel Alcantara scored 10 points and had eight rebounds for the Red Knights (6-3) and Moro Osumanu had 10 points and six rebounds.
Adams was named tournament MVP and Osumanu made the all-tournament team.
The Cougars (4-4) trailed by just two points, at 31-29, late in the third quarter before the Red Knights began to pull away.
Adams scored eight straight points over a 2 1/2-minute stretch of the second quarter to give Reading an 18-11 lead.
The lead stretched to nine on a pair of free throws by Alcantara.
Downingtown's Andrew King, who averages 20.3 points per game, had just three at the half on 1-for-9 shooting. He finished with 16 and was named to the all-tournament team.
Reading last won its own holiday tournament in 2016, when Lonnie Walker IV scored 36 points in a 91-67 victory over Math, Civics and Sciences.
In the consolation game, Central Dauphin defeated Steel-High 80-64.
