Highlights: Berks Catholic's top-rated defense held Wyomissing to its season-low scoring total in a 43-21 win Monday in a District 3 Class 4A first-round game at Wyomissing.

The Saints (13-9) advance to play at No. 2 Bishop McDevitt Thursday at 7 in a quarterfinal. The Crusaders earned a first-round bye.

The Spartans (17-8) were eliminated.

The Spartans, second in Berks in 3-pointers, didn't make a shot from beyond the arc, going 0-for-15.

Berks Catholic's Owen Wolfe scored nine points and did a standout defensive job on Wyomissing's top scorer, All-Berks pick Max Hurleman, who didn't score until midway through the final quarter and finished with two points.

Jacob Painton had 10 rebounds and seven points for the Saints.

The Spartans were playing without all-division point guard Owen Doyle, who is not eligible for PIAA postseason play due to transfer rules adopted two years ago. He transferred from Wilson following the end of his sophomore year.
