Highlights: Friday at Mechanicsburg, Talia Gilliard scored 17 and Logan Nutt had 14 to lead the top-seeded Wildcats (23-2) over the No. 8 Saints (16-10) in a District 3 5A quarterfinal. Mechanicsburg held the Saints to only one point in the first quarter and extended the lead each quarter after. Four different players scored as the Saints battled in the second quarter, but the Wildcats took a 20-12 lead into the break. Gilliard scored 16 of her game-high 17 in the second half as Mechanicsburg pulled away. For Berks Catholic, Caroline Reedy scored a team-high eight points.. Mechanicsburg moves on to host No. 4 Twin Valley, a 73-28 winner over Spring Grove, in the semifinals. Berks Catholic will travel to Spring Grove in the consolation semifinals on Tuesday. The Saints had already clinched a PIAA berth as the top eight teams from 5A advance.
