Highlights:
Reading High was on the brink of disaster late in its PIAA Class 6A second-round boys basketball game Wednesday against District 11 champ Bethlehem Freedom.
Big man Moro Osumanu was on the bench with four fouls. The Red Knights turned the ball over on eight straight possessions at one point. The Patriots trimmed a 16-point deficit to two with 4 1/2 minutes left.
The situation looked dire.
"It’s nothing new," said Red Knights junior Denim Adams, whose team has spent plenty of time on the brink this season. "I feel like we’ve been in that position multiple times. After a while, you get used to playing in an environment like that."
Choco Brea, the only senior who sees the floor for the Red Knights, helped calm his young teammates with a drive that snapped a 4 1/2-minute scoring drought and sparked them to a 67-65 win at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
The Patriots (18-9) pulled within 52-50 when Taj Montgomery hit the front end of one-and-one with 4:21 remaining.
