Highlights:
After two wins in two days following a long layoff the last thing Wyomissing basketball coach Ryan Ludwig wants is more time off.
“We're at a very good spot with everything right now,” Ludwig said Wednesday after the Spartans remained unbeaten in Division III of the Berks Conference with a 50-45 win at Fleetwood. “We've just got to keep doing what we're doing. We want to play the games. We want to play any time we can.”
With a snowstorm forecast the Spartans (7-0, 8-1), along with the rest of the teams in Berks, might be sitting home again Thursday.
When they resume play the Spartans will need just one more win to clinch their first division title in five seasons. They're scheduled to play Fleetwood at home Thursday, but their next game could come Friday at Schuylkill Valley. They also have league games against Antietam and Hamburg scheduled for Saturday.
They hit enough free throws in the fourth quarter Wednesday to hold off the Tigers (5-5, 10-7), who were eliminated from division title contention. Owen Doyle hit 3-of-4 from the line and scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter. Zach Zechman hit 2-of-3 at the line in the final quarter and finished with a team-high 15 for the Spartans.
Will Ryan scored 17 for the Tigers.
“We're still shaking some rust off from the two-week break,” said Ludwig, whose team didn't play between Jan. 24 and Feb. 15 due to COVID issues. “We played better (today) than we did yesterday (against Tulpehocken). Another game or two we should be back completely.”
