Highlights:
Junior Daniel Alcantara scored a season-high 22 points and Reading High knocked down seven 3-pointers in holding off Cumberland Valley in an early season battle of unbeatens Saturday in Mechanicsburg.
Sophomore Ruben Rodriguez scored 12 points for the Red Knights (4-0), who earned their second win of the week over a Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth foe.
Rodriguez hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the second quarter as the Red Knights took a 33-26 lead into halftime.
They had trouble pulling away from the Eagles (3-1), in part because they again had trouble at the free throw line, making just 5-of-15 shots. They were 0-for-4 in the final quarter.
Senior center Moro Osumanu was in foul trouble and finished with a season-low six points, and just two after the first quarter.
Grant Kuffa scored a team-high 15 points for Cumberland Valley, which opened its season last Saturday at Gov. Mifflin with a 46-43 win.
