Highlights: At York, Michael Sperring scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the first half and the Irish took advantage of nine first-half turnovers by the Saints (18-2) to gain early control of the non-league game between District 3 powers. York Catholic (13-6), which led 16-6 after a quarter and 26-16 at the half, never trailed in the game. Berks Catholic missed on seven chances to tie the game in the second half. Sperring made five of his team's 10 foul shots in the final quarter to preserve the win for the Irish, who ranked No. 1 in District 3 among Class AA schools. York Catholic's Mark Burnside, who had 12 points, scored the only field goals in the second half for the Irish -- a 3-pointer in the third quarter and a field goal in the fourth. Only three players scored for the Saints. Donovon Jack had 21 points and nine rebounds. Marquis Marshall had 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
