Highlights:
Wyomissing senior Joe Cacchione scored 23 points Tuesday night to surpass 1,000 points for his career.
Cacchione made the first and third of three foul shots in the third quarter to reach the milestone in a 69-60 Berks Conference Division III win over visiting Tulpehocken.
Cacchione, who needed 21 points going into the game, scored two more points for the Berks III champion Spartans (9-1, 16-6) to push his career total to 1,002.
The Spartans led the Trojans (3-7, 8-14) by 14 points at halftime before the second half turned into a shootout.
Robert Ekvall hit six 3-pointers, four in the third quarter, and finished with a career-high 28 points for Tulpehocken. But the Trojans never trimmed Wyomissing’s lead to under 10 points until the final minute.
Cacchione, a quarterback and wide receiver on Wyomissing’s undefeated PIAA Class AA championship team, finished with nine field goals, including three 3-pointers, and went 2-of-3 from the foul line.
Spencer Lloyd scored 15 points and Gerald Burns had 11 for Wyomissing.
For Tulpehocken, which connected on 11 3-pointers, Bryan Mellen scored 18 points.
