Highlights: Jan Johnson ran for a pair of scores and threw three touchdown passes as Gov. Mifflin rolled over Reading High 48-14 tonight in a Berks Football League Section 1 opener at Shirk Stadium.

Mifflin's Wilson Fontanez ran for 214 yards on 20 carries and scored a pair of first-half touchdowns, helping the Mustangs (3-1) build a 35-6 lead at intermission.

The Red Knights (2-2) got their only first-half score on quarterback Elisiah Bayne's 1-yard run midway through the first quarter, cutting Mifflin's lead to 14-6.

The Mustangs ground out 285 yards on the ground in the first half and 381 overall. They did not punt once.

Johnson completed 4-of-6 passes, including TD throws to Eliseo Ortiz, Hunter Bortz and Reid Hoff.

The defending champion Mustangs were just as good on defense, limiting the Red Knights to just 105 total yards through three quarters.
