Highlights:
Blue Mountain’s Christian Puzzi kicked a 24-yard field goal in overtime and Ian Donovan intercepted Fleetwood’s Zach Konig in the end zone on the subsequent drive to give the Eagles a thrilling 41-38 victory and the Eastern Conference Class AAA championship Friday night at the Eagles Nest.
The Eagles (10-2) were forced to use sophomore Mason Freed at quarterback as starter Sean Greenawalt was hurt in last week’s semifinal win against Coughlin. He mainly handed off to running backs Lucas Forbes, Will Horn and Christian Gosch as Blue Mountain gained 297 yards on the ground. Gosch and Horn each had two touchdowns, while Freed ran for another.
The Tigers (7-5) made it a shoot-out with their high-powered offense. Senior running back Tyler Emge ended his high school career with 174 yards on 25 carries and two TDs. Koenig was 10-of-19 for 237 yards and two TDs to Michael Allen, who had a pair from 64 yards.
Fleetwood kicker Matt Hook tied the game at 38-38 with a 43-yard field goal with 1:03 to go.
