Hempfield 7 0 0 14 21
Reading High 7 20 19 0 46
Highlights: Malcolm Williams wanted to make his final performance on his home field special. The Reading High senior quarterback certainly did that. Unfortunately, due to a steady downpour, not many were in attendance to witness it.

Nonetheless, Williams was at his best Friday night at Shirk Stadium, rushing for 185 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries and complet-ing a pass for a score as the Red Knights poured it on Hempfield 46-21 in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 game.

Williams scored on runs of 63, 21, 51 and 51 yards for the Red Knights (3-3, 3-6), who avenged a 45-0 loss to the Black Knights (2-4, 3-6) last sea-son.

Williams enters next week’s game at Wilson 24 yards shy of becoming the third Red Knight to reach 2,000 career yards. Tom Miller is the school’s all-time leading rusher with 2,190 yards, followed by Elly Salamo with 2,042.

“Last year we were blown out by them and I didn’t want to let that happen again,” Williams said. “I came out and played as hard as I could and we were able to come out with a victory.”

Hempfield had success running the ball much of the game and fin-ished with 423 yards on 59 carries. Eric Macik scored on an 11-yard run to put the Black Knights up 7-0 with 1:53 left in the first quarter.

Then Williams went to work. He took a direct snap, broke through a hole on the right side and raced 63 yards untouched to tie it 15 seconds later.

Williams scored on a 21-yard run 12 seconds into the second quarter to give the Red Knights a 14-7 lead. A little more than five minutes later he took a direct snap, faked a dive and took off for a 51-yard score to make it 20-7.

Fruquan Gaston, who finished with 139 yards on 10 carries, scored on a 72-yard run with 2:48 left in the second quarter to give Reading High a 27-7 halftime lead.

Williams raced 51 yards for a score 1:16 into the second half to put the Red Knights up 34-7. Two plays later Tamar Phelps scored on a 45-yard fumble return to make it 40-7.
