Highlights:
Cooper Lutz and Berks Catholic’s offense again proved unstoppable as they rolled over Bishop McDevitt 45-24 in the District 3 Class 4A championship at Hersheypark Stadium.
Lutz scored three first-half TDs as the top-seeded Saints (13-0) became the first team in Berks history to win three consecutive district championships.
The Saints won the 4A title last year and the Class AA title in 2015, before the PIAA expanded to six classifications.
The Saints scored on each of their first four possessions, with Lutz running for scores of 12, 30 and 41 yards and quarterback Terrance Derr finding Luis Garcia with a 15-yard TD pass.
Lutz finished with 221 yards on 18 carries.
The Saints, ranked No. 3 in the state, advance to the PIAA semifinals next weekend, site, time and opponent to be determined.
The second-seeded Crusaders (10-3) drove to the 13 on their first possession and got a 30-yard field goal from Jon Fonner. It was the first score against the Saints’ first-team defense this season.
