Highlights:
Heavy underdog Hamburg built some momentum late in the second quarter Friday night, when the Hawks scored their first points against Wyomissing since 2014.
But the Spartans were quick to kill the Hamburg's mojo as Max Hurleman went 80 yards for the score on the ensuing kickoff. The Hawks never recovered as Wyomissing won in a Section 2 rout, 45-6, at Hamburg.
Hurleman's kick return TD put the Spartans up 24-6 with 4:12 remaining in the first half. Wyomissing (2-0, 7-0) scored again before the break, with Jevin Tranquillo running it in from 18 yards out.
Tranquillo led Wyomissing with 89 yards on four carries, while Hurelman finished with 55 yards and a score on seven rushing attempts. Spartans quarterback Jordan Auman had 58 yards on five carries, and also threw for a third quarter touchdown.
Hamburg (0-2, 3-4) was led by Shaheed Warren, who ran for 73 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries against Berks' second-ranked run defense. Warren left the game in the fourth quarter with a lower-body injury and did not return.
