Highlights:
Reading High won the battle of the line of scrimmage and defeated Muhlenberg 34-0 Friday in a Berks Football League Section 1 game at Laureldale to win the “Battle of the Border” trophy.
Branden Boutte had time in the pocket and dissected the Muhlenberg defense for 176 yards and two touchdowns on 12-for-19 passing. Elijah Williams ran for 154 yards, including a critical 4th-and-2 conversion that went for a 65-yard touchdown.
Reading could not put Muhlenberg away early.
The Red Knights scored on a safety due to a bad long snap on a Muhlenberg punt to take a 2-0 lead.
Boutte found Jordan Jones in the back of the end zone right before the half for a 14-yard touchdown. Jones juggled the ball in traffic before coming down with the circus catch.
The Red Knights (3-3, 6-4) will wait to see if they qualify for the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The Muhls (0-6, 0-10) finish their first winless season since 1977.
