Highlights:
Charlie Maddocks threw the daggers but it was Christian Moreno and Fleetwood's running game that inflicted the most severe damage on Daniel Boone's defense.
Maddocks threw three touchdown passes but needed to put the ball up just four times after halftime as the Tigers used a big ground game to remain unbeaten with a 28-17 non-league win at Brazinsky Field.
Christian Moreno ran for 145 yards and the clinching touchdown, a 6-yard run that gave the Tigers (5-0) an 11-point lead with 9½ minutes left.
Overall, the Tigers ran for 241 yards – twice as much as Maddocks' passing total.
“Christian's our finisher,” said Fleetwood coach Sean Gaul. “We tell him late the game we want the ball in his hands, we want him to put it away for us.”
The Tigers' run game overshadowed a huge night by Boone's Tanner Vanderslice who ran 22 times for 220 yards, highlighted by an 81-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that put the Blazers on top 17-14.
That lead lasted less than 90 seconds as the Tigers were in the end zone in just four plays, the last a 26-yard TD pass from Maddocks to Matt Pierce – Maddocks' third scoring pass of the night.
