Highlights:
Twin Valley used a strong rushing attack and stout defensive effort to pick up a win over visiting Daniel Boone in Berks Section 1 play.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in Section 1 play. Meanwhile, the Blazers fall to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in Section 1 play. This is Twin Valley’s first win over Daniel Boone since the 2002 season.
Backed up at their own 11-yard line, the Raiders used eight-straight rushing plays to march down the field and took a 7-0 lead at the 4:02-mark of the first quarter. Dom Caruso scored the touchdown on a one-yard run after picking up 50 yards on the drive. The Raiders rushing attack got back to work as Caruso added his second touchdown of the quarter on a five-yard run to make it 14-0 Twin Valley.
Running back Tanner Vanderslice added 27 yards following the completion to set up the Blazers first score on a nine-yard run from Larry Williams to cut the Twin Valley lead down to 14-7. Nick Kurtz opened the Raiders ensuing drive with a 60-yard run down to the Blazer five-yard line before Raider quarterback Ryan Scheivert punched in a one-yard touchdown on third and goal.
Daniel Boone finally forced a three-and-out from the Raiders, and cut the Twin Valley lead to 21-14 with 32 seconds before halftime on a six-yard touchdown pass from Carter Speyerer to Vassallo. Raider kicker Matt Puccino drilled a 31-yard field goal as time expired to put Twin Valley up 24-14.
Kurtz burned the Blazers again on a 67-yard touchdown run off a double handoff to put the Raiders up 31-14 at the 9:01-mark of the third quarter. Scheivert extended the Raider lead to 38-14 at the start of the fourth quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run. Speyerer was sacked and stripped of the ball on the first play of the next Blazer drive, and Danny Hamersley recovered the ball to set the Raiders up at the 39-yard line. Scheivert needed just one play to make it a 45-14 game as he found a wide-open Trey Freeman on a flea flicker 39-yard touchdown pass.
Twin Valley held a 517-319 yards advantage with 413 coming on the ground. Kurtz finished with 163 yards on five carries and one touchdown, while Caruso rushed for 161 yards on 20 carries with two scores. Scheivert totaled 194 yards behind going 5-of-10 for 104 yards and one touchdown through the air, while adding 89 yards on 18 carries on the ground with two touchdowns.
He was named Daniel Boone’s homecoming king, Vanderslice finished with 33 carries for 160 yards on the ground along with the 90-yard kickoff return.
