Highlights:
Kolbie Reeser wanted to play like Friday might be his last game. The senior ended up with a night to remember, and at least one more week in his season.
Reeser ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as Gov. Mifflin routed Northern York 54-14 in a District 3 Class 5A opener at Shillington.
The No. 8 Mustangs (8-3) will play at No.1 Cocalico (8-2) next week in the quarterfinals. Mifflin lost 26-14 at Cocalico in Week 3.
Reeser took advantage of option reads all night Friday as the Polar Bears (7-4) focused on stopping Nick Singleton. Reeser ran for 122 yards and four scores on nine carries, and threw a fourth quarter touchdown to CamRon Stewart.
Singleton still had a big night, finishing with 207 yards and two scores on 20 attempts. The Mustangs also held the Bears' Kyle Swartz, a 2,000-yard rusher, to 126 yards.
Mifflin opened with a stubborn 13-play, 72-yard scoring drive that kept the Bears off the field for 7:41. Singleton went for 12 yards on a fourth-and-3 to keep the chains moving.
Two plays later, Reeser raced 32 yards untouched on an option keeper to finish off the drive.
Mifflin forced a turnover on downs at its own 23, then got a 59-yard touchdown run from Singleton six plays later.
The ninth-seeded Bears got back into it on their next drive. Swartz broke at least four tackles as he bulldozed his way for a 36-yard touchdown.
But the Mustangs came right back. Zackery Parsons took the ensuing kickoff 46 yards to the Northern York 31, and his teammates scored five plays later on a 3-yard burst by Reeser that made it 21-7.
Mifflin got three touchdowns in a span of 5:32 in the third quarter to trigger the mercy rule.
