Highlights:
Hamburg relied on a dominant defense and the physical running of Shaheed Warren to defeat Big Spring 21-0 in the 4A Eastern Conference Championship Game.
It was first ever playoff victory for the Hawks (2-3, 6-5), as their defense held the Bulldogs (1-5, 4-7) to 141 total yards.
Warren led the way for the Hamburg offense, carrying the ball 18 times for 155 yards and four touchdowns to close out his high school career.
The Hawks held a 7-0 lead for most of the first half until Warren took a fake punt 40 yards to the Big Spring 5-yard line. He would score three players later to stake his team to a 14-0 lead at the break.
That lead was extended midway through the third quarter when defensive back Kyle Vernon intercepted a pass to set up a 9-yard Warren score.
The Bulldogs offense never got closer than Hamburg’s 38-yard line. They punted four times and had four turnovers on downs due to the relentless pressure of the Hamburg front seven.
With just over six minutes remaining, Warren sealed the victory with a 45-yard dash to the end zone, and the Hawks prepared for a long-awaited trophy presentation.
