Highlights:
At Shenandoah, the Cougars picked up where they left off last year by opening the season with a victory over the Blue Devils.
Kutztown defeated Shenandoah Valley 36-0 in the season finale last year to snap a 35-game losing streak that dated back to the end of the 2016 season.
Jacob Lafferty rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cougars. He also completed 3-of-6 passes for 49 yards.
Leonard Neiman rushed for a 178 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 29 yards.
Kutztown used a surprise on-side kick in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
After Neiman scored on a 10-run run to put Kutztown ahead 21-14, David Ruhf recovered the on-side kick by Anthony Kenney to set up a 43-yard TD run by Lafferty.
Lafferty also scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. Issac Schneider got Kutztown on the board earlier in the second quarter with a 4-yard TD run after Shenandoah Valley had taken a 6-0 lead.
Kutztown controlled the game with a running attack that racked up 394 yards on 61 attempts. The Cougars ran 67 plays compared to 36 for the Blue Devils.
