Highlights:
At Pennsburg, senior quarterback Dave Crognale became the first Berks player on record to both pass for more than 1,000 yards and run for more than 1,000 yards in the same season, and the ball-controlling Bears (5-4, 5-7) got three Aaron Sassaman field goals to edge the Indians (4-5, 5-7) Thursday.
The win gave Boyertown and first-year coach Mark Scisly a winning PAC-10 record just a year after managing one win all season.
Crognale passed for 212 yards and a 58-yard TD to Ryan Schwager and ran for 66 yards.
Schwager caught four passes for 70 yards and the TD, and Sassaman hit field goals of 28, 27 and 26 yards, the last -- with 8:28 to play in the third quarter -- proving to be the game-winner as the Bears held the ball for nearly 20 of the second half's 24 minutes.
For complete details, see Jerry Reimenschneider's story in Friday's editions of the Reading Eagle.
