Highlights:
Wilson had the right formula to beat Manheim Central a year ago; the Bulldogs just didn't execute well enough to get it done.
That wasn't the case Friday as the Bulldogs clicked in all phases of the game in handling the Barons 49-14 in a marquee non-league matchup at Gurski Stadium.
The Bulldogs (4-0) got big offensive plays from quarterback Kaleb Brown, wide receiver Troy Corson and kick returner Mason Lenart to roll up a 35-14 halftime lead.
They were just as good on the defensive end, where they stormed the pocket and forced All-State quarterback Evan Simon into hurried throws or completely out of the pocket.
Simon hit on one big TD pass in the first half but otherwise was held in check, completing just 9-of-25 passes for 157 yards. He was sacked seven times overall and forced to throw on the run or scramble out of the pocket several other times. Avanti Lockhart, blitzing from his linebacker spot, had three of the sacks.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the first six minutes of the third quarter to put the mercy rule into effect, a rarity against the Barons (2-2), who hadn't lost back-to-back games in five years. They were ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 5A just a week ago, before a 37-7 loss to Warwick.
